There will be several important handouts coming home the first week. Some of them require your signature and should be reviewed with your child. Thank you!

January 27 - 31

Hello!
Just a few reminders
- please continue helping your child with their math facts. When they go to fourth grade, the teachers will not be teaching the facts to your kids. It is assumed that they know them and will move onto harder math concepts involving memorized facts.
- AR points this quarter are set at 20 points. 5 of those points must be non-fiction!
- report cards come home this Friday.

Reading - We just finished writing our research papers and the kids did an amazing job. We will be reading some stories from our reading book. The kids will be bringing home a copy to read to you.

Math - My class continues to work on multiplication and division.

Social Studies - My homeroom has a test on "Where do we live" this Wednesday, January 29. A study guide was sent home on Monday.

Spelling : ( concept; suffixes) ending, wished, asked, guessing, laughing, dreamed, rained, meeting, sleeping, handed, painted, filled, reading, subtracted, thanked, waited, scared, and walked.

Week of January 21 - 24

Hello!

Thursday is the end of 2nd quarter! I can't believe we are halfway through the school year. WOW!

AR points for 3rd quarter is set at 20 ( 5 of those points must be non-fiction)

Reading - We are finishing up our polar bear unit. The kids have done very well on this challenging book. Continue having your child read 20 minutes a night and return their reading logs on Monday.

Math - We continue to work on multiplication and division. The kids need to keep studying their flashcards. The slip is checked every Monday and it is for a grade.

Social Studies - We are finished with our science block and will have social studies the rest of the year. My class will do an extensive unit on Montana.

Spelling words - We will have spelling this week even though it is a short week. Concept: (prefixes ) The words are: prevent, preserve, predict, product, unlucky, undo, untie, repeat, remain, reconnect, redo, misbehave, mischief, mistake. Review words: birthday, receive, friend, and suppose. Test will be on Friday, January 24.

Report cards will come on January 31.

Weeks of January2 and January 6-10

Hello!
I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing Christmas break. The kids seemed very rested and ready to start working their brains!

Reading - We are starting a chapter book called Polar Bears and the Arctic. We will study polar bears, the Arctic Circle, how animals and people survive, and how changes are affecting this region.

Math - We continue to work on multiplication and division. Keep working on the facts with your child. They are given a timing every day and are working on earning a sundae.

Science - Our work with food chains will be studied for 2 weeks.

Spelling - No spelling for Jan. 2 or 3.
Spelling words for the week of January 6 are: polar, bear, Arctic, Arctic Circle, harsh, weather, animals, permafrost, tundra, equator, orbit, Inuit, Eskimos, caribou, parka, dogsled, kayak, and umiak. NOTE: The spelling test will be given on MONDAY, January 13 because my class will be on their field trip Friday, January 10.

Field Trip- January 10, from 9:00 - 2:00. Kids need a sack lunch and appropriate clothing for the day.
