Week of December 17 and January 2

Hello Parents, I am hopeful you were all able to make the Christmas program and that your Christmas season is not too fast and furious. During a busy time like this we need to stop and reflect on all that we have. There will be no spelling the week of Dec. 17 and the first week of January (2nd). Week of December 10

Hello! In reading we will read a wonderful story about Thomas Edison. We will be researching inventions and how they have made an impact on society. In life science, we are designing carnivorous plants. Week of November 12

Reading - We are reading a novel called Abracadabra. Science - This week we will talk about food chains. Math - We continue with subtraction. Remember: All costumes are due by Friday for our musical. Week of November 5

Welcome to 2nd quarter! It was wonderful meeting with all of you. Reading : We will finish The Harvest Birds and begin a chapter book. The kids are very excited for the new book. Science : We are learning about the different animal groups. Spelling: clown, round, bow, cloud, power, crown, thousand, crowd, sound, count, powder, blouse, frown, pound, house, found, mountain, and coward. Math - We will finish our addition packet and begin subtraction on Wednesday.

Week of October 29, 2012

Hello! This is an exciting week. Here is what is happening in our classroom: Reading: We are finishing up our story, What is an Illustrator? the kids have had a lot of fun illustrating stories. Math : We continue to work with addition. Spelling words are: itch, wreck, knee, patch, wrap, knot, watch, knife, stretch, write, knew, knock, match, wrong, know, catch, wrinkle, and knuckle. Science: Our study of carnivorous plants continues with Mr. Leintz's class. Halloween Party: The parade starts at 12:45 p.m. Then we will have snacks and games until 2:15. At 2:15 we will practice our Thanksgiving play. Parent Teacher Conferences: These are scheduled from 1:00 - 7:00 on Thursday, Nov. 1.

Week of October 8

Reading - We are reading the story Max's Words. Very fun story!!! Math - We are working on fact families. Spelling words for the week: math, toast, easy, socks, Friday, stuff, paid, cheese, June, elbow, program, shiny, piles, because, there, their, they're, and Once upon a time. The Halloween party is October 31 at 1:00 p.m. There will be a parade followed by treats and games. Science - The children are with Mrs. McMorris for 6 weeks studying earth science.

Week of October 1

Welcome October!!! Wow! September really flew by and this brings us into the new month. Here is what is happening in our classroom. Reading - We are finishing up our story called Roberto Clemente. This story is non-fiction and provided us with a lot of new information about this famous person. Spelling - Long "i" words They are listed as : slight, mild, sight, pie, mind, tie, pilot, might, lie, tight, blind, fight, die, midnight, silent, frightening, lightening, and alright. Science - We are finishing up our life science unit this week. Next week my class will study earth science with Mrs. McMorris for 6 weeks. Early out is this Wednesday, October 3.

Week of September 17

Hello! We have had a very good week. Here is what we will be studying for the week of Septmeber 17. Reading: We will read the story Pop's Bridge and do many activities with it. Math - We will be working with patterns, comparison signs and ordering. For the week of September 10 - 14 we will be covering the following: Reading : The Trial of Cardigan Jones story Spelling words are: spoke, mile, save, excuse, cone, invite, cube, price, erase, ripe, broke, flame, life, and rule Science : We will cover leaves and flowers. A quiz will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 12. A study guide was sent home on Friday, Sept. 7.to help your child study.

Week of September 4 - 7

Hello! We will be starting our 3rd week of school! Here is a list of things we will be covering for the week: Reading - We will read a funny story called, A Fine, Fine School. Vocabulary words for the story are: principal, strolled, proud, worried, soared, announced, fine certainly. Spelling - Lists will come home with your child on Tuesday. However, if you don't receive a list, the words are: crop, plan, thing, smell, shut, sticky, spent, lunch, pumpkin, clock, gift, class, skip, and swing. Science - We will plant seeds in clear plastic liter containers on Tuesday. The rest of the week we will study roots, stems, and leaves. BAM is every Friday.

Welcome to the 2012 - 2013 school year!

Dear parents and students, I am so excited for the new school year to begin! Just a few reminders for the classroom: 1. Bring a water bottle when it is HOT! 2. Label all of your supplies. 3. Bring a positive attitude to school! The first week of school will primarily consist of getting to know each other . We will also be going over classroom, hallway and school rules. Doing neat work is expected in 3rd grade and I will be modeling the kind of work that is acceptable. Learning things together will be the focus for the first week. Week of April 2 and April 9

Hello!
In reading this week and next my reading group will be working on plays. We will present them on Friday, April 13 to Mrs. McMorris' reading class. Your child will have parts to memorize.

The only spelling your child might have is if they missed any words on last weeks test. The words to learn are on a blue sheet attached to their test.

Social Studies continues with Mrs. Kangas' class learning about Montana.

Monday - No School
Reading - We are beginning a new chapter book called Polar Bears and the Arctic.I will be guiding them through the book and discussion.
Spelling - No spelling this week
Social Studies - We are finished with our science block. This week we begin our
Montana unit which will consist of 6 weeks. I have my homeroom kids for the first 6 week block.
New AR points - Mrs. McMorris and Mrs. Staffileno's reading classes will be required to earn 15 AR points for 3rd quarter. 9 points need to be fiction while 3 pts are required to be non-fiction and Native American.

Week of Jan. 9

Hello! We have been working very hard since the break. I have listed below what we will be covering this week.
Reading - Ramona Quimby story - Vocab words are: anxiously, degrees, tense, ingredients, recommended, remarked, festive and cross.
Spelling words : nurse, work, shirt, hurt, first, word, serve, curly, dirt, third, worry, turn, stir, firm, her, girl, perfect, and hamburger.
Science :This is the last week of the life science with Mrs. McMorris' class. A final test will be given on Friday, Jan. 13.
The quarter ends January 13. On this date all kids should have 15 AR points to reach the goal. Thank you!
