Week of Jan. 3

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful break! We are ready to hit it hard in the classroom with our academics!
Reading : We will read the story Aero and Officer Mike. The vocabulary words are:
lying, loyal, partners, shift, quiver, patrol, ability, and snap.
Spelling: horse, mark, storm, market, acorn, artist, March, north, barking, stork, thorn, forest, chore, restore,dark,story,partner, and fortune.
Science: We will finish up the life science unit the next two weeks.

Weeks of Dec. 12 and Dec. 19

Reading - Beginning on Wednesday, Dec. 14, we will begin a chapter book called Stanley's Christmas Adventure.
Math - We will work on a geometry unit. Also, we will be designing ornaments using geometric shapes.
Spelling - ( week of Dec. 12) - The spelling words are: because, where, were, does, little, a lot, thought, won't, before, done, work, through, threw, when,once, upon, sure, and brought.
No spelling the week of Dec. 19.

Week of Dec. 5-9

We had a very good week last week. We will continue working hard this week!
In reading, we will read the story Yonder Mountain. The main idea for this week in our story is "How do people change after they face a challenge?" Vocabulary words for that story are: steep, fondly, rugged, mist, pleaded, examined, peak, and pausing. It is helpful if you study these words with your child.
Spelling words: I'd, he's, haven't, doesn't, let's, there's, wouldn't, what's, she's, aren't, hasn't, couldn't, he'd, they're, can't, isn't,we're,and weren't.
Science - We will continue our study of plants. There will be a quiz on Thursday covering plant parts and their functions. This is for Mrs. McMorris' students.
Reminder: The 3/4 grade Christmas concert is Thursday at 1:00.

Week of Nov 21 - Dec. 2

Week of Nov. 21:
Reading: We will be doing numerous Thanksgiving stories and activities.
Math : Continuation of fractions and teepee geometry.
Science: A test will be given on Tuesday covering food chains, food webs, and life
cycles. (Mrs. Kangas' homeroom)
Spelling: None!

Week of Nov. 28:
Reading: We will begin the story, The Science Fair. Look for the packet coming
home that contains the story to read with your child.
Math: Fractions
Science: I will begin the Life Science unit with Mrs. McMorris' homeroom and will have them until the end of the semester.
Spelling:(Concept: Homophones) Here are the words: hole, whole, its, it's,hear, here,won, one, our, hour, their, there, fur, fir, road, rode, peace, and piece.

The CRT's will be given March 15, 16, and 17th. Please help your child be successful by seeing that they get a good nights sleep and a healthy breakfast. We have been preparing for these tests for a couple of weeks and hope the Elder Grove kids do great!

Report cards and I Love to Read month!

Report cards for 2nd quarter will be sent home with your child on Thursday, January 20. Also, there are many fun events planned for I LOve to Read month in February. These activities can be found on the Elder Grove Outlaw website.
