Weeks of Dec. 15 - 19th and Dec. 22-23rd

Hello!

It's beginning to look and sound a lot like Christmas!

The Christmas concert last week was wonderful and the kids are getting anxious for the break. However, we are still working hard...as follows!

Reading - We will be reading the story called Aero and Officer Mike. It is about a police officer and his working dog, Aero.

Math - We continue to work on multiplication and division. The sundaes are coming along nicely with the timings.

Science - Mr. Leintz's class is working on plants and their function. They will have a test on Wednesday, Dec. 17.

There will be NO spelling this week or next. We will work on handwriting. The next list will be January 5th.

Week of December 8 -12

Hello!

Wow, the weeks are flying by!

In reading we will start the story The Science Fair.

In math we continue to do multiplication and we have timings on Monday - Thursday. Bring flashcard slips every Wednesday for credit!

Science with Mr. Leintz's class is going well. We are working on our seed and plant unit.

Week of Dec. 1 - 5

Hello!


I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! It went by so quickly and now we approach the holiday season with excitement and busy schedules. Please continue to have your child read and do flashcards. Both slips are due every Wednesday.

In reading we are learning about Michael Jordan in the story Jump! The kids have been fascinated with all they have learned about him.

In math we continue to tackle multiplication and division. We have started our Multiplication sundaes!

I will have Nr. Leintz's class for science beginning on Thursday of this week.

Weeks of Nov. 17 -21 and Nov. 24 -26

Hello!
I am looking forward to meeting with all of you for parent teacher conferences. It was wonderful for children how we can all work as a team to benefit them!

In reading we are reading the Kamishibai Man and will soon start Young Thomas Edison. We have done many activities on inventions and the computer has been a helpful device as we venture through this unit.

In math the flashcards were sent home and so many kids brought them back with parents signatures!! Way to go! We will continue to learn our facts for a few more weeks.

In science, we are studying food chains. This is a really fun unit and the children enjoy finding animal that eat other animals.

Week of November 3-7

Hello!

It is hard to believe that we are almost to the end of the first quarter.

In reading we are finishing up the story Max's Words and will be starting The Harvest Birds.

In math, we just finished our graphing unit. My math kids have an at home graphing project that is due on Friday.

Science class has been studying plant parts and their functions.

Week of October 20 - 24

Hello!
We will continue with our MAPS testing on Tuesday and Thursday this week. It can be a long and draining test so be sure your child eats a good breakfast.

Week of September 29 - October 3

Hello!

This week is going to be a little off the normal schedule due to the third grade field trips. Mr. Leintz's class will go to the Sundance Center on Monday, Mrs. Staffileno's class on Tuesday and Mrs. McMorris's class on Thursday. Due to the constant change in classes my reading kids will not have a spelling list.

Reading - We will read The Trial of Cardigan Jones on the days that we are all here. All reading kids are working towards 10 points for the first quarter in AR. The quarter ends November 7th.

Math - We continue with place value.

Science - Our study continues with life cycles of plants, frogs, birds and humans.

Hello!

There is no school on Monday and Tuesday of this week. Wednesday is an early out.

Reading - We will start the story The Trial of Cardigan Jones. Your child will bring home a copy of the story that they will read to you. Please sign and return it the next day! So many of you did that perfectly last week!

Week of September 15 - 19

Hello!

Wow! The past week flew by. We worked so hard and the kids are adjusting well. We have learned a lot of new rules and procedures that the children keep practicing and are getting good at!

Here's a look at what's coming up for this week!

Reading - We are reading the story A Fine, Fine School. The story will be sent home for your child to read if they are in my reading class. We are working on writing letter, compare and contrast and comprehension.

Math - We are working on rounding and estimating sums.

Science - We continue our plant unit. We will do 2 experiments this week. One will be how water travels through a stem. The other will be dissecting flower parts and learn their names.

Spelling words for the week of Sept. 15:
weekend, because, of, friend, really, very, the, played,they, and was.
These are commonly misspelled so we will practice them all week. The test will be on Friday.

Weeks of Sept. 2 and Sept. 8

Hello and welcome to the new school year!

We are off to a super start! Here's what's happening!!


We have started off the new year by reviewing rules in the classroom and the hallways. With the new addition and playground, things have been a bit confusing for all of us but it is going well.

Reading - We read the story Chuka's Hawk. The kids will do some extensions with hawks the next two weeks that will include poetry, parts of speech, drawing, and research. This is a unit that the kids really enjoy.

Math - We just finish taking a beginning of the year test so that we can see what the children remember from second grade. We will start with place value on Monday .

Science - We just started our plant unit. The children have been carefully observing seeds, sorting them and showing measurements. We will study plants, life cycles and food chains for 6 weeks.

Week of May 19 - 23

Week of April 28 - May 2

Hello!

It is hard to believe that May is approaching so quickly!

Keep your child reading as 20 AR points are required this quarter!

Mid-term is this Friday, May 2.

Reading - We will be starting a new chapter book called Abracadabra on Wednesday. Then the children will be performing in a magic show in the classroom in the middle of May so they should start learning a trick they can perform for the 3rd graders.

Math - We will begin with measuring length.

Social Studies ( Mrs. McMorris' class) - We are studying "where I live" and will have a quiz on Wednesday over the material. A study guide will be sent home Monday, April 28.

Week of April 22-25

Hello!
I hope you all had a wonderful Easter break. The kids came back very refreshed.

Reminders:
Early-out on Wednesday ( April 23)

AR points required for my reading class is 20 AR points. At least 5 points must be non-fiction.

In reading we are reading some stories from our basil. They are mostly non-fiction stories that the kids can test on.

In math we are working on our measurement unit and working with time.

No new spelling words for the week. However there are several kids who will be tested this Friday on the words they missed last week. Please ask your child for the "purple" sheet and it lists any words they missed previously.

We will work on our cursive handwriting of capital letters this week.

Social Studies will cover Montana and I will be teaching Mrs. McMorris' class for these last 6 weeks.

Hello!

In reading we are starting the novel, Sarah, Plain and Tall. This is a wonderful story about a mail order bride and two children needing a mother.

Math - We continue our study of fractions.

Social Studies - We will talk about famous people that have had an impact on Montana and why they are famous.

Week of March 3

Hello!
We have been working very hard in school despite the tractors and loud machines outside of our windows. The construction has begun on our new classrooms!

We are already in our last week of February! That's so hard to believe.

In reading class, we are reading Lumber Camp Library. It is a wonderful novel and it is an AR book. We are working hard on the parts of speech too.

In math we will finish our division chapter this week and then start on fractions.

Famous people in Montana is the focus this week in Social Studies.

Week of Feb. 10 - 14

There is no spelling this week due to the fact that it is early out Wednesday and no school on Friday. However, if your child missed any words on last weeks test those words will be given again on Thursday, Feb. 13. Please help your child with any missed words.

Week of February 3 -7

Hello!
February is such an exciting month with a lot of fun activities going on. This is "I Love to Read" month. Many of the kids are participating in the Read-a-thon. Fridays are dress up days and can be found on the school website.

Wednesday is 100 day. Please send your child with a baggie of 100 edible items. We will make trail mix and celebrate the 100th day of school.

Kids need to bring a shoebox to school by Friday so we can decorate them.

Reading - We are on the story Yonder Mountain

Math - We are learning many strategies for patterns and tables

Social Studies - We have a test over Montana facts on Wednesday. Besides that we are learning about the importance of the bison to the Native American people.

January 27 - 31

Hello!
Just a few reminders
- please continue helping your child with their math facts. When they go to fourth grade, the teachers will not be teaching the facts to your kids. It is assumed that they know them and will move onto harder math concepts involving memorized facts.
- AR points this quarter are set at 20 points. 5 of those points must be non-fiction!
- report cards come home this Friday.

Reading - We just finished writing our research papers and the kids did an amazing job. We will be reading some stories from our reading book. The kids will be bringing home a copy to read to you.

Math - My class continues to work on multiplication and division.

Social Studies - My homeroom has a test on "Where do we live" this Wednesday, January 29. A study guide was sent home on Monday.

Week of January 21 - 24

Hello!

Thursday is the end of 2nd quarter! I can't believe we are halfway through the school year. WOW!

AR points for 3rd quarter is set at 20 ( 5 of those points must be non-fiction)

Reading - We are finishing up our polar bear unit. The kids have done very well on this challenging book. Continue having your child read 20 minutes a night and return their reading logs on Monday.

Math - We continue to work on multiplication and division. The kids need to keep studying their flashcards. The slip is checked every Monday and it is for a grade.

Social Studies - We are finished with our science block and will have social studies the rest of the year. My class will do an extensive unit on Montana.

Spelling words - We will have spelling this week even though it is a short week. Concept: (prefixes ) The words are: prevent, preserve, predict, product, unlucky, undo, untie, repeat, remain, reconnect, redo, misbehave, mischief, mistake. Review words: birthday, receive, friend, and suppose. Test will be on Friday, January 24.

Report cards will come on January 31.

Weeks of January2 and January 6-10

Hello!
I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing Christmas break. The kids seemed very rested and ready to start working their brains!

Reading - We are starting a chapter book called Polar Bears and the Arctic. We will study polar bears, the Arctic Circle, how animals and people survive, and how changes are affecting this region.

Math - We continue to work on multiplication and division. Keep working on the facts with your child. They are given a timing every day and are working on earning a sundae.

Science - Our work with food chains will be studied for 2 weeks.

Spelling - No spelling for Jan. 2 or 3.
Spelling words for the week of January 6 are: polar, bear, Arctic, Arctic Circle, harsh, weather, animals, permafrost, tundra, equator, orbit, Inuit, Eskimos, caribou, parka, dogsled, kayak, and umiak. NOTE: The spelling test will be given on MONDAY, January 13 because my class will be on their field trip Friday, January 10.

Field Trip- January 10, from 9:00 - 2:00. Kids need a sack lunch and appropriate clothing for the day.
