Reading - We will continue our non-fiction book on polar bears. There is no weekly story to read.
Spelling words: from, Sunday, money, under, nothing, summer, does, mother, lunch, month, such, front, much, sun, other, and Monday. Be sure to study any words that have been misspelled from the previous spelling test.
Social Studies: We are beginning our study of Montana!
Field Trip- On January 27, the 1-6th graders will attend a field trip at the Alberta Bair theater. More information will follow.

Week of January 16
Monday - No School
Reading - We are beginning a new chapter book called Polar Bears and the Arctic.I will be guiding them through the book and discussion.
Spelling - No spelling this week
Social Studies - We are finished with our science block. This week we begin our
Montana unit which will consist of 6 weeks. I have my homeroom kids for the first 6 week block.
New AR points - Mrs. McMorris and Mrs. Staffileno's reading classes will be required to earn 15 AR points for 3rd quarter. 9 points need to be fiction while 3 pts are required to be non-fiction and Native American.

Week of Jan. 9
Hello! We have been working very hard since the break. I have listed below what we will be covering this week.
Reading - Ramona Quimby story - Vocab words are: anxiously, degrees, tense, ingredients, recommended, remarked, festive and cross.
Spelling words : nurse, work, shirt, hurt, first, word, serve, curly, dirt, third, worry, turn, stir, firm, her, girl, perfect, and hamburger.
Science :This is the last week of the life science with Mrs. McMorris' class. A final test will be given on Friday, Jan. 13.
The quarter ends January 13. On this date all kids should have 15 AR points to reach the goal. Thank you!

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful break! We are ready to hit it hard in the classroom with our academics!
Reading : We will read the story Aero and Officer Mike. The vocabulary words are:

Spelling: horse, mark, storm, market, acorn, artist, March, north, barking, stork, thorn, forest, chore, restore,dark,story,partner, and fortune.
Science: We will finish up the life science unit the next two weeks.

Weeks of Dec. 12 and Dec. 19
Reading - Beginning on Wednesday, Dec. 14, we will begin a chapter book called Stanley's Christmas Adventure.
Math - We will work on a geometry unit. Also, we will be designing ornaments using geometric shapes.
Spelling - ( week of Dec. 12) - The spelling words are: because, where, were, does, little, a lot, thought, won't, before, done, work, through, threw, when,once, upon, sure, and brought.
No spelling the week of Dec. 19.
Enjoy the holiday season!!!

Week of Dec. 5-9
We had a very good week last week. We will continue working hard this week!
In reading, we will read the story Yonder Mountain. The main idea for this week in our story is "How do people change after they face a challenge?" Vocabulary words for that story are: steep, fondly, rugged, mist, pleaded, examined, peak, and pausing. It is helpful if you study these words with your child.
Spelling words: I'd, he's, haven't, doesn't, let's, there's, wouldn't, what's, she's, aren't, hasn't, couldn't, he'd, they're, can't, isn't,we're,and weren't.
Science - We will continue our study of plants. There will be a quiz on Thursday covering plant parts and their functions. This is for Mrs. McMorris' students.

Science: A test will be given on Tuesday covering food chains, food webs, and life
cycles. (Mrs. Kangas' homeroom)

Reading: We will begin the story, The Science Fair. Look for the packet coming
home that contains the story to read with your child.
Math: Fractions
Science: I will begin the Life Science unit with Mrs. McMorris' homeroom and will have them until the end of the semester.
